My inspiration comes from where I live, the south-west of Western Australia.  The region is one of Australia’s 15 bio-diversity hot spots, and joins only 34 other regions in the world.

I am fortunate to live in a place that helps support  more than half of the world’s plant species as endemics — that is species found no place else — and nearly 43% of the world’s bird, mammal, reptile and amphibian species as endemics.

My work focuses on the colours and textures of the region and the impacts on the environment, particularly the affects of climate change.  I primarily work in warm glass, using glass powder and fritt to convey the fragility of the environment.

As glass making is a lengthy process, I intersperse this with other creative pursuits encompassing silver jewellery, painting, clay, textiles, printmaking or just playing with what is at hand.

More recently I have been exploring sculptural figurative works with air-dry clay, a medium on the opposite spectrum to glass.  It is easy to work with and can be shaped and set with minimal equipment.  It also allows more spontaneity to be expressed and I am enjoying the exploration.

You are invited to contact me if there is any work of interest on my website or you would like to commission a piece.
