Tidal Pools

This ongoing series of work responds to the patterns of the pristine waters of the Geographe Marine Park where I spend most mornings walking along the foreshore from my home in Quindalup.   As the tide rolls out it leaves behind a raised lacework pattern of thin threads of sand,  with each receding wave overlapping each other on the shore.  Pools of clear water are left behind around the rocky coast of Old Dunsborough, their treasures within ready to be explored.  No tide pattern is the same.   And each day the colour of the sea is different.  It is a reminder of the changing but constant rhythms of life.

Each work is individually made, the patterns inscribed into tablets of plaster. The relief is filled with powdered glass and backfilled with glass fritt the size of sugar crystals.  The first firing in a kiln forms a flat sheet of glass and a second lower temperature firing shapes the vessels.  It takes over two days to make each set.
